The Raleigh Standard, March 15, 1865
 Died, at his  residence in Wake County, on Wednesday morning the 9th instant, 
of disease of the heart and lungs, DR. WM. P. HAYES, aged about 40 years. He 
leaves a wife and two children to mourn their loss. He was much respected by 
his friends and acquaintances, and is a serious loss to the community in which 
he lived.
