Wake County, NC - Obituary of Edward S. Hughes, 1939 Edward S. Hughes, Texas Banker, Dies Edward Smallwood Hughes, 75, Texas and New York banker, died Friday. A native of Raleigh, NC, Hughes went to Abilene after his graduation from Princeton in 1882 to become a merchant and later an investment banker. He was president of the Ed. S. Hughes Company of Abilene, the Fellsmere Estates Corporation, both of Fellsmere, Fla., and chairman of the board of Roscoe, Snyder & Pacific Railway Company, a Texas railroad. He formerly was chairman of the board of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Abilene. He maintained homes and offices in Abilene and New York city. His sole survivor is a daughter, Elizabeth Graham Hughes. Funeral services will be held Saturday at St. James' Protestant Episcopal Church, with burial in Kenisco Cemetery, Westchester.
