Regester and daughter of the late James R. and Mrs. Rhoda Howell Gilliam of Handsom, died at a Raleigh hospital Thursday night, May 16. She was a native of Southampton County and had spent all her life at Handsom until 15 years ago when she went to make her home in Raleigh. Besides her husband she is survived by one brother, John E. Gilliam, of Norfolk, two stepchildren, F.L. Regester, Jr., and Mrs. J.L. Dean of Raleigh, two nieces and three nephews. Funeral services were held at Mt. Horeb Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Morrison. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Joel Holland sang “Sometime We’ll Understand” and “In The Sweet Bye and Bye” during the service. The pallbearers were J.A. and H.E. Fowler, S.S. and K.R. Bishop, G.E. Whitley and E.R. Regester. There were many beautiful floral tributes and a large crowd gathered at the church to pay the last tribute of respect to their late relative and friend.
