He had long been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; he bore his severe affliction with Christian fortitude and died in full assurance of a blissful immortality. He tenderly exhorted his irreligious friends to prepare for death and a few moments before he expired, exultingly remarked to one of his brothers, who stood near his bed-side, that the pains and anguish of this life would soon be over, and that he possessed within his breast a principle which would hear him triumphantly through the gates of death. He then called his mother, told her he was going, took an affectionate leave and breathed his last without a struggle or a groan. He has left a mother and five brothers, with numerous friends and relatives, to mourn their irreparable loss.
