She departed this life on Wednesday September 10, 1980 at Wake Medical Center Raleigh, North Carolina. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was a former member of Malaby's Cross Road Baptist Church. Later she became affilated with the New Bethel United Church of Christ in Raleigh where she remained a faithful member and missionary unil death. She married to Berry Watkins and to this union six children were born. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her door was always open to her family, friends and neighbors with a kind word and an open heart. She was never to busy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her faith and strength in God helped her to endure all things along life's path. The Rose in our garden will be greatly missed. She leaves to mourn: a husband Berry Watkins; two daughters, Shirley John Atkins, Janie Faye Watkins of Raleigh, NC; four sons Herbert E Watkins,(Tennessee) of the home, William B Watkins, Reverend Barney Ray Watkins, James H Watkins of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Patricia Evans of Baltimore MD; Eula Pearl Jones of Raleigh, NC; four brothers, William Hinton, Ernest Hinton, James Hinton of Raleigh, NC, Charlie Hinton of Garner, NC; two aunts; Amy Williams of Raleigh, NC and Nannie Ledbettter of Brooklyn, NY; two uncles; Charlie Williams of Raleigh, NC and Lonnie Williams of Philadelphia, PA; three daughters-in-law; one son-in- law; fifteen grand children; one great grand child and a host of relative and friends.
