North Carolina Divorces and Alimony Petitions - 1813. "Higbie, Thisbe J. (Wake Co.) Married David Higbie about eight years ago and went to live with him in New York. He was not only a wastrel but he left for distant parts and abandoned his wife and infant (daughter). She has removed with the child to North Carolina and is dependant upon her brothers and relations for support. Prays that such property as she may acquire shall be secured to her as if she were [blurred] wife. Signed, Thisbe J. Higbie. (Undated, but referred to committee by the House on 3 December 1813. Endorsed. Alimony granted.) Supporting Documents: (1) Deposition of Calvin JONES of Raleigh. Thisbe J. Higbie is his sister. Believes that his sister's petition contains nothing but true facts. His New York correspondents tell him that HIGBIE has wasted all his property, abandoned his wife and daughter, and has gone to distant parts unknown. Signed: Calvin JONES; sworn before Richard Smith, J.P. in Wake Co. on 2 Dec. 1813. (2) Deposition of Sylvester K. Fuller. Confirms the above and adds only that Higbie left New York between two and three years ago. Signed, Sylvester K. Fuller; sworn before Richard Smith, J.P. in Wake Co. on 2 DecFrom: The North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal, Vol. 1, 1975, page 81. North Carolina Divorces and Alimony Petitions - 1813.
