Devised October 22, 1837, Proven November Term, 1837. In the name of God Amen I Joseph Adams of the State of North carolina and County of Wake being now weak in body but of Sound mind and of disposing memory do make and Ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to Say. I give to my beloved wife Winnafred Adams one large Sorrel horse five cows and yearling also all my household and kitchen furniture Except Such as I Shall here after mention ten choice hogs to fatten two Sows and pits all of my plantation utensils, one horse cart and one riding chair my present crope I have in my lot and two blade stacks in my home field and one in my new groundfield all of my crop. I also lend to my wife all my land and plantation During her widowhood or Natural life and then I give all of my land to my Son Joseph Adams. I also give my wife my crop of peas and hulls and my crop of potatoes and what flax I have. I give to my daughter Mary Adams One feather bed and furniture and bedstead. I give to my Son Joseph Adams one feather bed Stead and furniture One young horse four years old next Spring one brinded heifer & one Shot gun. I give to my Said daughter Mary Adams one Chest and table that has formerly been called hers. I also give to my said wife Seven choice Sheep if that many be found. All the rest of my property I leave to be Sold consisting of one Sorrel mare and colt a parcel of cattle Some hogs and Sheep a parcel of blade fodder and all the rest of my property of all Sorts and discriptions Except what cotton my Executors may think enough for my family to use one year which they will reserve for my wife. And one small ___ heifer I leave to my wife to kill for a beef this fall. And of the procedes of the said Sale of the above mentioned property I give to my daughter Margaret Woodward ten Dollars and I give in like manner to my daughter Winnafred Ogburn ten Dollars and also I give to my daughter Elizabeth Crowder ten Dollars and I give my daughter Mary Adams who now lives with me One hundred Dollars to be paid by my Executors. I will here mention that if my Executors find guardiens notes enough among my papers to settle with my ward Benjamin Wommack or his guardian who may be appointed after me Except one note which I hold agains my Son Nathan Adams then I do hereby Indulge my Said Son Nathan Adams until he can pay the Same with Convenience Out of the balance of money that may be left after paying over what is mentioned above. I give my Son Joseph Adams fifty Dollars to enable him to go to School as he may have time and Opportunity, and if then there be any balance left after paying my Executors I leave it equally to be divided among all of my children Sons and Daughters. I hereby reserve what brandy I have over One barrel for the use of my family. I do hereby make and Ordain my Son John Adams and my worthy friend and Brother William Rowland Executors to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I do hereunto Set my hand and affix my Seal this 22nd day of October in the year of Our Lord 1837.
