Alston, 1847, Wake Co., NC [Copy of original will received from North Carolina State Archives] In the name of God Amen. I George L. Alston of county of Wake and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory blessed be god do this day make and publish my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeth my soul to god who gave to me and my Body to be decently Buried at the discression of my Executors here after appointed. As to my wordly Estate I give in manner and form following, to wit, Item 1st I give and Bequeth to my Beloved wife Gilley Alston the tract of land whereon I now live all my house hold & kitchen furniture also all my stock of horses cattle hogs and sheep and two Negroes, to wit, Ben and Jeffrey During her natural life. Item 2d I give and Bequeth to the bodily [word scratched out] heirs of Elizabeth K. Moore my daughter [word scratched out] twenty five dollars. Item 3rd I give and Bequeth Mary J. Kennon my dau-ghter twenty five dollars. Item 4th I give and Bequeth to my daughter Grissa M. Thomas fifty dollars. Item 5th My will and desire is that all the property given to my wife in the first Item be Equally devided Between my Daughter Nancy L. Hester and son Wesley F. S. Alston with the Excepttion of farming shop and carpenters tools all of which I give to my son Wesley F. S. Alston. This item includes all of my property after the second third and forth is complyed with. Revoking all other wills made by me hear tofore I nominate and appoint to this my last will and testament Wesley F. S. Alston and William [H ? K ?] Hester as my Executors. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty Seven October the 20th in year above written. George L. Term 1849 [page torn] paper writing purporting to be the last will [page torn] testament of Geo. L. Alston is brought into court [page torn] W. F. S. Alston & Wm. H. Hester and applied for pro- [page torn] when Mary J. Kennon one of the heirs at [page torn] of the said Geo. L. Alston [illegible] in open [page torn], and enters a caveat to the said will. Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that an [indistinguishable] be made up to try whether the said paper writing be the last will and testament of the said Geo. L. Alston or not, and whether the said Geo. L. Alston did devise or not as therein set forth. It is further ordered by the Court that advertisement be made in the North Carolina Standard, a news paper published in the City of Raleigh for six weeks successively, for James Thomas & wife Grizzy & Mary L. Moore, Martha H. Moore, [page torn] L. A. Moore, Jno M. Moore, Lemuel K. Moore Eliza H. S. Moore, & Nathl. S. Moore, children of E. K. Moore, decd, and heirs at Law of the said Geo. L. Alston now residents [?] to be and appear at the next term of this court and caveat the said will if they think proper. It is further ordered that the said Mary J.
