WAKE COUNTY, NC - WILLS - William Dennis, 31 August 1794 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Wake Co., NC, Record Books of Wills, Inventories, Settlements of Estates (1771-1902), (Salt Lake City : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1946, 1959), vol. 3, p. 44] Last Will and Testament of Wm Dennis, decd In the Name of God Amen I William Dennis of the County of Wake and State of North Carolina being Very Sick and Weak in Body but of perfect mind & Memory thanks be to God for the Same calling to mind the mortality of my Body & that it is appointed for all Mankind once to die Do make and ordain this to be and Contain my last will and Testament in Manner and form following that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my Soul to God and my Body to be Buried at the discretion of My Executors hereafter named. Imprimis I give and bequeath to my Well beloved Wife Dredy Ann Dennis all my Estate both Real and Personal during Her Widowhood or lifetime, but should She marry then my desire is that my land containing one hundred acres lying on Bartons Creek in Wake County Shall belong to my Son Jeremiah Denson [sic] which I give and bequeath to Him and his Heirs forever Item. I give and bequeath to my Son John Dennis Ten Shillings Current money Item. I give and bequeath to my Son William Dennis Ten Shillings Current money Item. I give & bequeath to my Son James Dennis Ten Shillings Current money Item. I give & bequeath to my Daughter Henrietta Wilson ten Shillings Current money Item. I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Hutchings Ten Shillings Current Money [Written in the left margin] I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Dredy Ann Wilson, Ten Shillings current money Item. I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Dorothy Dennis one Feather Bed and Furniture and one Flax Wheel to her and Her Heirs and assigns forever Item I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Anner Dennis one Bay Horse Horse [sic] called Canter, & one Feather Bed and furniture to her and her heirs and assigns forever Item my desire is that my Lot in the City Raleigh and one mare such part of my crop & Hogs as be spared from my families use be sold by my executors either by Public or Private Sale to discharge my Just debts --- Item My will is that if either of my Mares should bring a live colt while they belong to my estate that my Son Jeremiah Dennis shall have it with my Riding Saddle with my great coat which I give and bequeath to Him and his Heirs and Assigns forever Item My desire and Will is after the death or Marriage of my Wife that all my moveable Estate of every kind be equally divided between my two Daughters Dorothy and Anner Dennis which I give and Bequeath to them and their Heirs and Assigns forever. Lastly I nominate and appoint my Wife Dredy Ann Dennis Executrix and my Son John Dennis Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby voiding all and every other former will by me made ratifying this and no other to be and contain my last will and Testament In witness where of I have here unto set my hand and Seal: This thirty first day of August AD 1794. William M (his mark) Dennis Signed Sealed Published & declared presence of John Rice Jurat Robert Grady Jurat Ephraim X (his mark) Harris 15 September 1794 On the 3rd Monday in September 1794, the last will and testament of William, decd., was proved by the oaths of John Rice and Robert Grady, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and at same time Dredy Ann Dennis and John Dennis exx and exor were qualified. 10 December 1794 Inventory of the Estate of Wm Dennis decd taken 10th Dec. 100 Acres of Land, 1 Lot Raleigh, 1 Cow, 3 Horses, Feather Beds & furniture, 3 Bedsteads, 1 Desk, 1 Table Six chairs, one Rum Case and Bottles one looking Glass a Parcel of Crockery, the Pewter: Dishes & Pewter Plates 2 Pewter Basins and 6 Pewter Spoons & Knives & 5 forks, one Iron Pott, one Dutch oven 2 pr Potthooks, 1 pr Flesh forks, 1 Flat Iron, 1 Loom & 3 Stays. A parcel of coopers ware, 1 sifter, a parcel of Barrels & old cask, 2 Ploughs, 1 Mattock, 2 Weeding hoes, 1 Broad Ax, 2 Farrow axes, 1 hand Saw, 1 Adz, 2 Augers and parcel of other carpenters tools, 2 flax wheels & one Cotton wheel1 pr chards, 1 large earthen Jug 2 Sows & ten Shotes, 16 Geese and a parcel of poultry, one churn one Bread Tray.
