Available at the North Carolina State Archives In the Name of God, Amen: I John Hopkins Senior of Wake County and State of North Carolina, Knowing the uncertainty of Life and certainty of Death and being in Sound mind and healthful body, do hereby declare and proclaim this may last Will and Testament To Wit: ___(Viz?) I lend unto my wife Elizabeth Hopkins, including her natural life fifteen negro slaves, males named Peter, Jerry, Henry, Turner, Anderson, and Robert Junior, 6, and females named Jinny, Crecy, Mary, Mourning, Tempe Jane, Fanny, Sarah, and Hannah, 9. And their future increase and at her decease, the aforesaid fifteen negroes with their future increase to be equally divided between my three grandchildren, namely Lewis P. Dunn, William H. Dunn, and Emily Dunn, children of Nathaniel Dunn of Franklin County, N.C. Item, I lend to wife Elizabeth three hundred acres of land more or less, it being the Land upon which I now reside during her natural life and at her decease, I give the said land to my son Archibald W. Hopkins. Item, I give and bequeath unto my wife, one young horse, named Selim, two milk cows, two breeding sows, one feather bed and furniture, two spinning wheels, one loom, pots and ovens belonging to me and the earthen and glass ware in the dwelling house, and twelve months provisions out of my crop on hand. Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Archibald W. Hopkins, one negro man named Richard, one name Crawford, one negro female named Patsy and one female named Tempe, with their present and future increase, in which he is now in possession. I also give my son A W Hopkins one negro man named Robert, Sr., at my decease. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Fort, one negro man named Demur, one negro man named Will, and one named Nat. One negro woman named Hannah, one negro woman named Amy. with their present and future increase, which she is now in possession of. Item, I give and bequeath unto my grandchildren, (the children of John Baker of Franklin County) at John Baker's decease to wit, Nash, Daniel, George, and Robert, one female named Dilsey with her future increase to be equally divided between my grandson Archibald Baker and granddaughter Elizabeth Freeman, Mary Reed, Julia Ann Baker, Jane Baker, Nancy Baker, Harriet Baker, Ruthe Baker, and Martha Ann Baker. Item, I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Mary Reed one hundred and fifty acres land off the west end of the tract of land I bought of Matthew Strickland, including the buildings so attached. Item, I give and bequeath unto Ruth Baker and Martha Ann Baker. One hundred acres off of the East end of said tract of land - that is, fifty acres each. All other property, consisting of stock, farming utensils, crop on hand, and all other property not bequeathed in this last will and testament shall be sold, the money arising (?) from the sale to be equally divided between Archibald Baker, Elizabeth Freeman, Julia Ann Baker, Jane Baker, Nancy Baker, Harriet Baker, Ruthe Baker, and Martha Ann Baker, Excepting one hundred dollars which I give to my son Archibald W. Hopkins. - I declare this my last will and Testament Hereby annulling and rendering void all others. I hereby appoint my neighbor and friend Joseph Fowler Jr. as my Executor.
