In the name of God Amen, I Jesse Jones Sen. of the County of Wake and State of North Carolina being in a low state of health, but in perfect mind, and calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. First of all , I recommend my Soul to Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the Ground from whence it came to be buried in a decent Christian buriel at the discretion of my Executors, and Tuching such worldly affairs as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this world, I give and Devise in the following manner, To Wit, - I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Winnifred one feather Bed and furniture of her choise. I also give her Fifty dollars in cash to purchase such things as she may need, I also give her Ten Barrels of Corn and five hundred weight of Pork. I also lend her the following articles during her natural life, and then to be disposed of as hereafter directed. Viz, one negro man by the name of Nide, and one negro woman by the name of Nicey ­ also one yoke of oxen, and cart, one horse or mule, of her choise, two cows and calves and all my cider casks and five head of Hogs, of her choise and two Ewes and lambs of her choise, one chest one Bofat and one Table of her choise, and one Brass Skillet ­ I also lend her the Tract of Land whereon I now live, containing 480 acres with an exception of a small portion thereof as deeded to Taxely Johnson, John Nall and William Fuquay. I also lend her my Grist mill that is situated at my Sawmill in Cumberland County. I next give and bequeath unto my Daughter Charity Turner all my land lying betwixt Neals Creek and Kings Creek, that I had not otherwise disposed of by deed or otherwise, both in Wake and Cumberland Counties and on each side of the County line, except the land set apart for my wife and that I give her, Charity, at the death of my wife. I next give and bequeath unto my son Josiah Jones all of my land lying on the East side of Kings Creek both in Wake and Cumberland Countys, also the land lying adjoining Stephen _______ and I______ Stuarts land. I next give and bequeath unto my son Alvin Jones all my land ______west of Neels Creek, so as for Charity Turner and Alvin Jones I leave my Sawmill, betwixt them and each an Equal Portion _____ the Grist Mill to belong to them Jintly at the death of my wife and not before. I next give and bequeath unto my son Laban Jones one negro boy by the name of Solomon. I next give until my son Josiah Jones one negro boy by the name of Eldridge. I next give unto my Daughter Delphia Womack one negro man by the name of Charly. My next desire is that my negro boy by the name of Abel be sold on a credit of m_____ and the money acruing therefrom equally divided between all the children of my Deceased Daughter Rebecckah Pylant. I next give and bequeath unto Thomas Laseter, son of my daughter Delilah Laseter, one negro Girl by the name of Louisa. I next give unto Jesse Laseter (if that is his name, at any rate to the next son of my Deceased Daughter, Delilah Laseter one negro Girl by the name of Simmon and if either of them should die the negro I give that to belong to the survivor (viz), if he die without an heir of the body, and at the death of my wife, my desire is that the negro Ned that I leave to her, may be sold, and the money equally divided betwixt the children of my Deceased Daughter Abigail Pylant, and the negro Girl by the name of Nicy at my wife’s death, I give to my Daughter Charity Turner together with her increase (if any she has before the death of my wife, I next give and bequeath unto my Daughter , Bethany Smith, one negro woman by the name of Sally, and also her youngest child Titus I also give to the said Bethany Smith, My next desire is that my perishable Estate may be Sold all except, what I give and leave to my wife, on a credit of nine months, and the money arrising therefrom together in cash in hand (if any), at my death be set apart first for costs of settling my Estate and paying my Debts (if any is owing) , paying my wife her legacy of fifty dollars, and also one dollar I give to my Daughter Polly Stephenson (having given her her portion before) the balance of the money arrising from such Sale and cash to be equally divided between my three Daughters To Wit, Bethany Smith, Chrischany Johnson and Zilphy Stinson and at the death of my wife the property I have lent her to belong to my Daughter Charity Turner. And I also give my log cart and chain to Alvin Jones and Augustin Turner jointly so that it may remain to the use of the Saw Mill entirely. And last of all I do make and constitute my worthy friends Augustin Jones and Barnabas Jones the sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and I hereby utterly disallow revoke and disanull all and any other former Testament Wills legacies bequests and Executors by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other, to be my last Will and Testament.
