Warren County, NC – Warren Academy – Act to Establish, 1826 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to establish an Academy upon the lands of Joseph W. Hawkins, in the county of Warren, and for other purposes Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That there shall be an academy established upon the lands of Joseph W. Hawkins, in the county of Warren, in a house which he has erected for that purpose, to be known by the name of the “Warren Academy.” And be it further enacted, That William Williams, Williams Robards, Thomas H. Kean, Solomon Green, Micajah T. Hawkins, John D. Hawkins and Joseph W. Hawkins, be, and they are hereby appointed trustees of said academy hereby established; and the said trustees, or a majority of them, shall have power to make such rules and regulations for the well ordering and good government of said academy, as they, or a majority of them, may deem expedient; to appoint other trustees, or fill vacancies when the same may happen, and to do whatsoever matter or thing which trustees of other academies in this State are allowed to do, for the encouragement thereof. And be it further enacted, That all teachers of said academy, during the term they shall attend the same, shall be exempt from military duty of all kinds, except in case of rebellion or invasion.
