Warren County, NC - Shocco Female Academy - Act to Incorporate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to incorporate the Shocco Female Academy in Warren County Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Henry G. Williams, Joseph Hawkins, William K. Kearney, James Allen, Whitmel Alston, Jacob Hunter, and James Southerland, shall be, and are hereby declared a body politic and corporate, to be known and distinguished by the name of the President and Trustees of the Shocco Female Academy, and by that name shall have perpetual succession; and they and their successors, or a majority of them, by the name aforesaid, shall be capable in law to receive and possess any quantity of lands or tenements, goods or monies, that may be given to the use of the Academy, and apply the same according to the will of the donor. And be it further enacted, That said Trustees may sell and dispose of any lands or tenements, goods or chattels, that may be given to the use of said Academy, when the will of the donor does not forbid it. And be it further enacted, That the said Trustees, by the name aforesaid, to wit: The President and Trustees of the Shocco Female Academy, shall be able and capable, to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in any court within this state, and shall have power to do all such things as are incident to, and usually exercised by bodies politic for the promotion of the objects contemplated, not incompatible with the constitution of this state.
