Henry Harton Our community was made very sad Monday afternoon, about 7 o'clock, when the news came that Mr. J. Henry Harton was dead. Mr. Harton left here Monday morning for his work in the Odell section of the county where he was engaged in superintending the cutting of poplar logs for Mr. C. D. Riggan. About 4 o'clock he was standing near where a tree was being cut and in some way the tree shot back and pinned him to the ground, mashing a great hole in his side. It was with hard work that the tree was removed from his body by those who were working in the woods, but he was mortally wounded and broken up and was rushed to the hospital in Henderson where he died about the time he reached the hospital. The body was prepared for burial and Tuesday brought to his home in Norlina. The funeral was conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon and was in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. L. Midgette, assisted by Rev. W. R. Stephens. The burial took place at Zion church and the service at the grave was in charge of the Jr. Order and a large representation of the local lodge attended the burial in a body. Mr. Harton was about 55 old. He leaves a large family of children and kins-people and a wife by his second marriage. The sympathy of our people go out to this so suddenly bereaved family.
