   DIED, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on the 13th inst., MARMADUKE J. SLADE, ESQ., 
publisher of the Tuscaloosa Monitor, aged about 50. MR. SLADE was a native of 
Warren County, N. C., a grandson of MARMADUKE JOHNSON, and nephew of GEN. 
ROBERT and COL WILLIAM JOHNSON. He learned the printing business at Raleigh, 
in the office of the late JOSEPH GALES, SR. and removed to the South about 30 
years ago. He was a member of the Baptish Church.
