He was a member of the Franklinton Baptist Church and of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He retired from the Seaboard Air Line Railroad after more than 50 years of service. The son of the late Thomas B. and Roxie Lowry Tharrington, he is survived by his wife, Mary Pearson Tharrington; four children, Mrs. C.L. Simonton of Crewe, Mrs. John W. Bryant, Jr., of Handsom, Mrs. L.E. Bullard of Silver Springs, Md., and James O. Tharrington, Jr., of Franklinton; one sister, Mrs. E.H. Moore of Macon, N.C.; and five brothers, Ernest, Robert, and Harry Tharrington, all of Macon, Milton Tharrington of Florida, and Walter Tharrington of Caracas, Venezuela; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Macon Baptist Church by Rev. R.E. Brickhouse, assisted by Rev. Harvey Davis, pastor of the Macon Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Macon. Mr. and Mrs. Tharrington and children were residents of Handsom for several years during the 1930’s.
