In the name of God Amen. I Phillip Alston of the county of Warren & state
of North Carolina being of sound mind & memory do this third day of August
in the year eighteen hundred & twelve make & ordain this instrument of
writing to be my last will & Testament revoking all others.

I give to my daughter Polly a little Negro girl named Ellen the daughter of
Cherry.

I lend to my beloved wife Elizabeth during her natural life the Tract of
land whereon I now live & all my house-hold & kitchen furniture which I
want sold after her death & the proceeds there-of equally divided between
my children. I also give her my wife an equal [?] share of the balance [?]
of my Negros (meaning a childs part) the young [?] bay horse, the
[illegible] farm [?] mare [?] the two mules Robbin & [illegible] a
[illegible] of [illegible] & ox cart, five cows & calves, four sows & pigs,
twelve head of sheep, fifty barrels of corn, ten bushel of wheat, two
[illegible] [illegible] of [illegible] & a [illegible] to [illegible]. I
also give her the choice [?] & [illegible] sadle & bridle

The balance of my Negros I wish hired out as my Executors may think proper
until my children come of age or marry at which time they are to take an
Equal share. It is also my will & desire that the Land which I purchased of
[Duke ?] should be sold as my Executors may think would be of most
advantage to the children & the money arising from the sale [illegible]
divided & [illegible] to them as the Negros are.

Out of the money arising from the sale of the balance of my stock &c (which
must be sold as my Executors may think proper) the money that is
[illegible] [illegible] I want my debts paid & the [illegible] to be
equally divided between my children. [illegible] my will & desire that the
child or children that my wife is now pregnant with should have an equal
share of the property given to the children [illegible] in the [same ?]
situation in every [illegible] whatever.

I constitute & appoint to this my last will & Testament my three Brothers,
Whitmill Thomas & Samuel Alston, my wifes two Brothers William & Alexander
Johnston, my three Friends William Williams, William [H ? K ?] Kearney &
Joseph Hawkins, Executors who I am [illegible] will do for my wife &
children what they would wish me to do for them. Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand & seal this day above written.
