I William Lancaster of the County of Warren and State of North Carolina being of sound mind disposing memory do make and dictate this to be my last Will and Testament in the following form and manner first it is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expences be paid. It is my will and desire that all my perishable property be and remain in the possession of my wife Elizabeth B. Lancaster during her widowhood for the use and support of herself and my children and should it become necessary for the support, education or clothing any of my children that my wife Elizabeth B. Lancaster have full power to make sale of any part of my stock for said use and as soon as my youngest child shall arrive to lawfull age it is my will and desire that all my property that’s remaining on hand be equally divided between my wife Elizabeth and all my children and their lawful heirs of there boddy, it is further my will that my wife have the use and possession of all my land during her widowhood should she marry before my youngest child shall be alike between my wife and all my children or there lawfull heirs of there boddy except the land on the north side of the road which I wish equally divided between all my children or there lawfull heirs of there boddy. ITEM: It is my will desire that my son Josiah L. Lancaster have and receive the gray colt, should the colt die before it is five years old that he is to come in with the bal. of my children when the division takes place but in case it shall live until it is five years old or he may think proper to trade it then and in that case he is to allow in the division with the other children and my wife the sum of twenty five dollars. Lastly I appoint my friend William C. Clanton executor to this my last Will and Testament in witness my hand and seal this 6th day of August 1840.
