I Lawrence Lancaster of Warren County and State of North Carolina, being weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner following (to wit): ITEM: I give and bequeath to Elmina Lancaster, one bed and furniture first choice, also all that part of my land south of Jerry’s Spring Branch from Doctor Waker’s line to the head of said branch at Jerry’s path, and along said path toward my house to John Rodwell’s line, one cow and calf. In addition to the above, I bequeath one half of my household and kitchen furniture and stock of every kind, together with an aged Negro woman named Agga to Elmina Lancaster, to her her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to Patsey Lancaster one cow and calf to her her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto Kinchen Stephens and Burwell Stephens, jointly, the other half of my household and kitchen furniture, stock also named in Elmina Lancaster’s legacy, to them, their heirs and assigns forever. It is my will and desire abt the provisions that are on hand at my death be made use of in my family which I leave. It is my will and desire that if Jerry Stephens shall pay John Rodwell his claim in money for which the said Rodwell has a trust or security on the land (illegible) Whereas there are certain sums of money due me by John Rodwell: now if I should die before I receive said money, it is my will and desire that it shall be applied to the benefit and support of the family. I leave behind me (to wit) Patsy Lancaster, her children and the old Negro woman. It is my will and desire that Jerry Stephens shall have my wearing clothes and my gun. I ordain and appoint my friend, Moses Bennett sole executor to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of February 1821. Bennett and John Rodwell CODICIL Upon mature reflection, it is my will that William Haywood Lancaster shall have possession of half the legacy bequeathed to Elmina Lancaster in every kind excepting the feather bed.
