   23 Feb. 1787 -- EDMUND WILLIAMS of Washington, N. C., appoints MAJOR JOHN 
ADAIR of Chester County, S. C., attorney, to receive for 120 pounds, Va. 
money,  from  CAPT. MATTHEW BASS, late of Lancaster Co., S. C., one likely 
negro man, COUNTRY, born under 25 years old. (Seal) EDMUND WILLIAMS.
