Singleton et ux, 29 March 1882 Washington County NC Registrar of Deeds Book W Page 104 State of North Carolina Washington County Know all men by these presents that we B.M. Spruill and wife Francis E. of the County and State aforesaid for and in Consideration of a Certain piece or parcel of land belonging to John E. Singleton and wife Mary have bargained Sold and Conveyed and by these presents do bargain Sell and Convey unto him the Said John E. Singleton and wife their heirs and assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land Situated in the County aforesaid on the North Side of Papaw Road. Beginning at an Elm four feet on South East Side from my ditch, thence the same course of Said Ditch to John E. Singleton's line, Thence along Said Singleton's line to the Papaw Road, thence along Said Road to the first Station. Containing four acres more or less. To have and to hold the above named premises unto him the Said John E. Singleton and wife Mary and their heirs and assigns forever. And we B.M. Spruill and wife Francis E. do warrant and defend the premises above mentioned against ourselves our heirs and assigns and against the lawful claims of any and all persons whatever unto them the Said John E. Singleton and wife Mary their heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof we have hereunto Set our hands and Seals B.M. Spruill (Seal Francis E. Spruill (Seal) State of North Carolina Washington County I J.T. Hassell justice of the Peace do hereby certify that B.M. Spruill and Francis E. Spruill his wife personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed of conveyance, and the Said Francis E. Spruill being by me privately examined Separate and apart from h er Said husband touching her Voluntary execution of the Same, doth State that she Signed the Same freely and Voluntarily without fear or Compulsion of her Said husband or any other person, and that she doth Still Voluntarily assent thereto.
