The Edenton Gazete July 16, 1821
   -- The body of MR. WM. SEAVER, merchant, of Washington, was discovered 
yesterday morning about four miles above this, and at the distance of 30 yards 
to the right of the road leading to that place, in a thicket of woods, where 
it had evidently, from appearance, been dragged for concealment. The 
circumstances, we understand, were such as to leave no doubt of his having 
been willfully murdered on the afternoon or evening of Friday, as he left this 
place, where he made several purchases, on his return home, on foot, after two 
o'clock of that day. On examination his throat appeared to have been severely 
cut, and that a pistol ball had perforated the right side of his head, passing 
through his hat, which was considerably burnt with powder. -- One arrest has 
been made -- but under what circumtances of suspicion, we are unable to say.
