Washington County, NC - Wills File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Shirley Wersinger The Last Will of Joseph Arnold A Copy State of North Carolina Washington County In the name of God amen I Joseph Arnold of the State and County abovewritten, being in health and perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, calling to mind the mortality of my body, that is appointed forall men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. Viz. First of all, I give and recommend my soul to Almighty God that gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried a Christian at the hands of my executors nothing doubting but I shall receive the same at the Great day Judgment by the Almighty power that gave it me and as touching such worldly property as it hath pleased God to give me in this life, I dispose of in the following manner and form- 1st I will and desire that all of my just debts be paid by my executors out of my perishable estate-Then I give to my beloved wife Elizabeth Arnold her life time or Widowhood the all of my estate, real & personal 2nd Then I give to my son John J [G?] Arnold's five children, the land which I bought of Levi Bateman, John Bateman and Hezekiah Spruill- 3rd Then I give to my daughter Ufrasha Long's three children fifty cents each; 4th Then I give to my daughter Prissila Long one dollar 5th Then, I give to my son Hezekiah Arnold my land to the south of the ditch from the gate 6th Then I give to my daughter Elizabeth Arnold two young negroes named Eliza & Jack also one ?loom one linen wheel my clock and one cow & calf 7th Then I give to my sons William and Wilson Arnold my old tract of land whereon I now live, to be divided north and south by the sycamore trees on the ditch, and four hundred acres of wild land I bought of Dempsey Godfrey, then I give to Hezekiah Arnold, William Arnold & Wilson Arnold all the ?? that are left after their mother's death together with the tools, stock and other property Ratifying this and no other to be my last will and testament, as witness my hand and seal, fourteenth day of November 1841 I also constitute and appoint to this my last will and testament, my beloved wife Elizabeth Arnold, executrix and Hez. Arnold, Wm Arnold and Wilson Arnold executors-to this my last will & testament (signed) Joseph Arnold [seal] Washington County Court of P & Q Sessions Feby Term 1843-Then was the due executors of this paper writing duly proved as the last will and testament of Joseph Arnold Decd by the Oaths of R. B. Davis, Jas. S Spruill & Abraham Davenport, who proved the same, every part thereof in the proper hand writing afsd Joseph, that his hand writing is generally known & the same was found among the valuable papers of sd Joseph. Ordered that it be admitted to probate as a will passing realty and personally; and that is be recorded-Hezekiah Arnold appeared and qualified as executor (signed) T. E.
