Watauga County, NC - Sarah Dyson to Nora Williams, 1910 ~~~~~~~~~~ Sarah Ann Williams Dyson Butler, Tennessee circa 1934 Sarah Ann Williams was the daughter of William Anderson "Badge" Williams and his wife Emily A. Johnson. She was born in Watauga County, NC in May 1874. In about 1892, she had a child named Don. Her family moved from Watauga County, NC to Johnson County, Tennessee sometime before 1900. She married Moses W. Dyson on 22 Jun 1899, and they settled in Butler, TN. In October, 1910, Sarah wrote a letter to her sister in law Nora Ann Harbin Williams, who lived in Watauga County. Nora was the wife of William Harrison Williams, son of William Anderson "Badge" Williams. Butler, Tenn. R.F.D. #2, Box 36 Oct 21, 1910 Dear Sister and Children, I will now after some delay try to ans your letter I received some time ago. Was glad to hear from you all and hear you was all well. This leaves us all well as comon. Now don't think hard of me for not ans sooner for I cut the end of my finger off when I was making craut and could not rite and can't rite much yet. How are you all getting a long. By this time all OK I hope. Have you got all of your work done. I think I will be ready to go to quilting in a bout a week. I wish you and Eliza was over hear to help me. We would have a good time. We haven't had eney frost hear yet. Have you all had eney over there? Don said tell Bealor he ought to come over and went with him to the big show at Bristol last Saturday. I was sorry you lost part of your apple butter. Tell Bealor and Earl and Mattie and Lessie and Jessie I want to see them all and for them to come over a you to see me. Tell them all to rite to me. Ask Mattie if she has forgot the peaches yet. Tell her I am coming after her to stay with me when Bell gets married. Bell said tell you she would love to see you all and she was coming before long. Sunday Eve I will try to finish my letter. I began it fryday Eve and Bell went to Elizabethton Saturday morn on a visit to see her people and I have had company since fryday morn. I went to Sunday School this morn and came home and got dinner and there wasonly 15 hear for dinner to day. So you can guess whether I am tired or not. Well I haven't heard from Bill since you was over hear. I guess he has forgot he has got a sister in old Tenn. Don't you? I have had one letter from Tom since you was hear and 2 from John. He sais he is coming home some time this winter. How is Maggie Johnson? Has she come home yet? Is her baby yet a live? How is your Paw and Maw? Are they well? Mose said tell you all hello for him. So I close for this time hoping to hear from you all soon. Rite me a long letter and tell me all the news and give my love to all the children. Your sister as ever. The Bill mentioned is William Harrison Williams, who had gone to Tacoma, Washington for employment. He would later abandon his family and establish a new identity in British Columbia, Canada. Tom and John are Thomas H. Williams and John A. Williams, Sarah's brothers. They had also gone to Tacoma, Washington to seek employment. Maggie Johnson is assumed to be a niece of Emily A. Johnson Williams, wife of William Anderson "Badge" Williams. In 1930, Sarah wrote a letter to her sister in law Nora Ann Harbin Williams in Cleveland, Ohio. The letter was written on stationary from Hotel McAlpin in New York City. Sarah was on her way to France to see her son Don S. William's grave. He had been killed on 16 Oct 1918 during WWI.
