Items from the Democrat of 
Mary 23, 1895

   Mrs. R. C. Rivers and little Ralph have returned from a visit of some weeks 
to relatives in Olin.
   Miss Carrie Bryan, after a protracted visit to her sister  Mrs. Dr. 
Morphhew at Marion, N. C., returned on Tuesday.
   Married yesterday on Meat Camp at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. 
Cicero Miller to Miss Minnie, daughter of Benjamin Tugman.
   We are please to note that Mrs. J. F. Spainhour, who has been very much 
indisposed for some time, is improving.
   Miss Mary Yarboro, who has been teaching music at Mars Hill, has joined her 
parents here, and will assist her father, Professor Yarboro, in his school.
   Mrs. Nathan Horton has a curiosity in the form of a chicken with three well-
developed legs.  It does not use but two of them in walking, however.
   Rev. J. G. Pulliam who is pastor of the Baptist Church at Smithfield, N. 
C., returned on last Saturday for his family.  They leave today accompanied by 
the best wishes of all.
   Watauga people will be glad to learn that Captain Jordon Cook, fomerly of 
our county, has been appointed postmaster at Linville, vice, Charles 
Ricksecker.
   So far the supreme court has heard seven cases carried up from the courts 
held by Judge L. L Greene and out of that umber the judgment of the lower 
court was confirmed in all, save one.  We get this from a private letter 
received from Judge Greeen (sic) this week.  Such is the record being made by 
our mountain judge, and though we differ from him widely in politics, it is a 
pleasure to us to know that he wears the judicial ermine with such honor to 
his constituents.
