   Roy Marsh Baird, 67, of 101 Laurel Drive, Boone, died Wednesday afternoon, 
June 8, 1983.  He was born July 17, 1915 in Watauga County to the late John 
and Onie Gragg Baird.  He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, where he 
was chairman of the Board of Deacons, a former Sunday School Teacher and a 
former Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years.  He retired July 1, 1977 
after 35 years of service from the N.C. Dept. of Transportation as a grader 
operator.
   He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Floy Tolbert Baird, one son, Marshall 
Baird of West Jefferson, three daughters, Mrs. Helen Wiseman of Lenoir, Mrs. 
Geneva Tester of Vilas.  Mrs. Pauline Hayes of Boone, one Brother Rady Baird 
of Vilas.  Six grandchildren also survive.
   Services will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Lebanon 
Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Carl Wilson, the Rev. Burl Greer and 
the Rev. Arnt Greer.  The body will like in state at the church from 10-11 
a.m.  Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
   The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant.
   Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.
