Cannon William L. Cannon, 84, of Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Center following an extended illness. Mr. Cannon was a native of Boone, N.C., and a son of the late William Arthur and Sarah Marilla South Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William L. Cannon Jr., and by four brothers and five sisters. Mr. Cannon was a retired employee of the City of Elizabethton and a former employee of American Bemberg Corporation. He was a World II Army veteran and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Joe Collins and Sandra and Benny Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton, and three sons and a daughter- in-law, James Cannon, Ronnie Cannon and Jerry and Vickie Cannon, all of Elizabethton. Twelve grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Cannon will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, February 27, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Mark C. Collins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law, Jason Cannon, Joshua Cannon, Travis Cannon, Kelvin Cannon, Daniel Grindstaff, Benny James Grindstaff, Benny Grindstaff and Joe Collins. A special "Thank You" to the employees of Hermitage Health Center for the loving care given to Mr. Cannon for the past several years. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Friends may call at the home of any family member at anytime.
