A. Cowles Rites Held William Andrew Cowles, 82 years old, Boone resident died Sunday. Born in Watauga county June 7, 1877, Mr. Cowles was an early day mail carrier in Watauga county and reports are that he carried the first RFD mail route in Watauga county, which originated at the old Moretz postoffice (sic). He was also a pioneer merchant. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church in Boone Tuesday at 11 o’clock by Rev. Homer Greene and Rev. Arlie Moretz and burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Josephine Cowles; two daughters, Mrs. Fred McNeil and Miss Lucy Cowles; four sons, Joe W. cowls of Baltimore, Md., Dana Cowles of charlotte, Mack and Tom Cowles of Boone.
