Horton Mr. J. C. Horton of Route 1, after an illness of many years died at his home on Saturday last, and the body was laid to rest with Masonic honors in the family burying ground on Monday in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives. Mr. Horton was a man loved and respected by all who knew him. In his younger manhood he was prominent in every move that leoked (sic) to the betterment of his county. He succeeded well as a farmer and a business man and held different positions of trust at the hands of his friends. He was loyal to his church his country and his God and in his death Watauga loses one of her best men. All that the best physicians could co, or loving hearts could suggest was done to try to ? the ravages of the disease, but to no avail. He had heard the call "Come up higher" and peacefully, quietly, willingly, obeyed the summons. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Carrie, who had full charge of his business during his long illness, even directing the work on his beautiful farm, and her tender loving care of "daddy" was something beautiful. His aged mother, Mrs. Rebecca Horton had made her home with him for many years and was with him when the end came. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. J. S. Winkler, of Boone; and three brothers, Dr. W. P. Horton, of North Wilkesboro, Mr. J. B Horton, of Elkin, and Mr. H. W. Horton, of Boone. A tribute to the memory of this good man, will appear in our next issue, which is being prepared by his former pastor, the Rev. L. C.
