Had Lived in Dee Valley for the Past Twenty-five years. Lum Kirby, former resident of Watauga County, died in an Elizabethton, Tenn., hospital Saturday night, where he had been taken a few hours earlier, suffering from injuries received in a ca (sic) wreck on the Johnson City- Elizabethton pike. Reports from the Tennessee town state that Kirby’s neck was broken in the crash, and that he died without having regained consciousness. Mr. Kirby was born and reared to young manhood at Mabel, N. C., a son of W. M. Kirby, but had been a resident of the Doe River Valley for more than twenty- five years. He was a married man and the father of a large family. Funeral services were held Monday near Doe, Tenn., and several relatives and friends from Watauga were present. Survivors include the widow and three children, the father, and several brothers and sisters, among who are Arthur, Filmore and Oscar Kirby, of Mabel, and Mrs. Marvin Thomas, of Mabel.
