Mast, Sr. - Retired Merchant James B. Mast, Sr., of Route 1, Vilas, died 8 o'clock Thursday afternoon at his home following a heart attack. He was 67 years old. He was reared in Watauga County, the son of the late Newton and Addie Horton Mast. In 1929 he took over his father's business as a general merchant at Mast until his retirement in 1966. He was a member of Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Herring Mast, formerly of Wilmington; a son, James B. Mast, Jr., of Clemmons, athletic director of West Forsyth Sr. High School; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Nifong of Pfafftown; a sister, Mrs. Maude Mast Casey of Cycle; and two grandchildren, Deborah Ann Nifong and Jeffrey David Nifong. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Cove Creek Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Charles Ginn, pastor of Cove Creek Baptist Church and the Rev. William Grant, pastor of Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment was in Cove Creek Cemetery. Out of town friends and relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn A. Vaughn Brown, all of Cycle; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson, Mrs. Robert Russell, Winston-Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Binkley, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Simpson, Lewisville; Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Allred, Mr. Mark Southern, Mr Harold Southern, Clemmons; Mrs. George Saintsing, Lexington; Mr. Grady Tester, Lenoir, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Martin, Mr. John Lasley, Pfafftown; Mrs. Alliene Nifong, Thomasville; Mr. and Mrs. Loy A.
