Peeks Mattie Louise Peeks, 80, 229 Airport Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, October 24, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Peeks was a native of Watauga County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Charles Burgess and Mary Baird McConnell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia McConnell and Ramona McConnell, and two brothers, Jim McConnell and Joe McConnell. Mrs. Peeks was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the DAV Women's Auxiliary. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, David Norman Peeks Jr.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Teresa Norris and Norma and Cecil Hill, all of Elizabethton, Pamela "Shanky" and Joe Perry, Piedmont, S.C., and Jerri Sue and Rick Beeson, Johnson City; five grandchildren, James Kenneth Watson Jr., David Russell Watson, Bradley Shane Peeks, Sara Michelle Loudermilk and Whitney Layne Norris; two sisters, Georgia Bingham, Brevard, N.C., and Margaret Watson, Boone, N.C.; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Claude "Yo" Malone. Funeral services for Mrs. Peeks will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Music will be provided by John Bunn. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Dr. Claire Parris. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. Active pallbearers, family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
