Phillips Gilbert Haven "Bud" Phillips, 74, of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, formerly of 2140 West G Street, died Thursday, September 8, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Phillips was a native of Watauga County, N.C., and a son of the late Thomas Monroe and Hessie Weaver Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Mr. Phillips had worked in Detroit, Mich., as a millwright. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Butler Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Tim Phillips, Forest City, N.C., and Gary Phillips, Piney Flats; a daughter, Pamela Moore, Ocala, Fla.; two grandchildren, Dustin Phillips, Forest City, N.C., and Brittani Moore, Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Dennis Phillips, Johnson City; and a sister, Geneva Timbs, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The graveside service for Mr. Phillips will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 9, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Holly officiating. Those wishing to attend may meet the family at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Program. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Friends may call at the home of his son, Gary Phillips, 235 Allison Cove Trail, Piney Flats, at anytime. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Red Cross (Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund), 116 Holston Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 207 N.
