William E. Sheffield

   William Enoch Sheffield, Sr., 74, of Vilas, Route 1, died Thursday night at 
Blowing Rock Hospital.
   He was born in Mitchell County to John H. and Dollie Weatherman Sheffield.  
He was a farmer.
   Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Vergie Gryder Sheffield; five daughters, Mrs. 
Irene Sharpe of Asheville, Mrs. Christine Gendreau of New York, Mrs. Dollie 
Issacs of Vilas, Mrs. Nancy Barbasa of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Faye Brown of 
Boone; two sons, Roscoe Sheffield of New York and William E. Sheffield, Jr. of 
Miami, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Ida Lewis of Tennessee; and a brother, Jack 
Sheffield of Tennessee; 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
   The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cove Creek Baptist Church, with 
burial in the church cemetery.  Officiating were Rev. Ernest Blankenship and 
Rev. Herbert McCoy
