He was born Sept. 16, 1918, in the Meat Camp community of Watauga County, to the late William and Maudie Proffitt Winebarger. Mr. Winebarger was owner and operator of the Winebarger Grist Mill and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Vernita Bryant Winebarger; three sons, David Winebarger and wife, Rachel, and Allen Winebarger, all of Boone; and Dale Winebarger of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Anne Norris of Boone; three grandsons, Trathan Norris and wife, Emily; Brent Winebarger and Dalton Winebarger, all of Boone; two granddaughters, Ashley of Winebarger Boone and Patsy Spencer and husband, Marvin, of Atlanta, Ga.; one great-grandson, Marcus Spencer of Atlanta; four sisters, Mrs. Verlia Moretz of Mountain City, Tenn., Mrs. Margaret Miller and Mrs. Martha Lookabill, both of Boone, and Lola Bowles and husband, Burl, of Lexington and Boone; two brothers, Arlie Winebarger and wife, Esther, of Montross, Va. and George of Winebarger Boone; three sisters- in-law, Mrs. Lucy Winebarger and Mrs. Burlie Winebarger, both of Boone, and Darlene Tallant and husband, Joe, of Montross, Va. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Winebarger; a daughter, Debra Winebarger; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Bryan; five brothers, Monroe Winebarger, Robert Winebarger, Henry Winebarger, Howard Winebarger and Albert Winebarger; a son-in-law, Jeff Norris; and a grandson, Nathan Norris. Services were conducted this afternoon (Friday) at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Tom Hehenberger. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
