  This is a transcript of a fragment of the family bible of Edmund
Coor, born March 10, 1811, in Wayne County, North Carolina:

NOTE: A small Cox/Coor Cemetery in Wayne County has recently been rescued 
from being swallowed up by underbrush, and that a transcription of the 
names and inscriptions on the stones is in the Archives section of the

NOTE: These entries were written by Edmund Coor, mostly in his own hand,
prior to his death, according to his will. After his death in January,
1895, the family bible passed to Annie Eugenia Coor under the terms of the
will. It was kept by Annie Eugenia Coor (my grandmother) from 1895
through her death on February 10, 1964. 

At least the fragments of the bible which are transcribed below stayed in 
farmhouse of Annie Eugenia Coor Aycock and Milford Aycock after their 
deaths, and these fragments came into custody of Annie Dorothy Aycock 
Kirby (my mother), who inherited the house and part of the farm through 
the settlement of Annie Eugenia Coor Aycock's estate. 

They were probably in custody of Nell Aycock Wells during the period 
1964-1967, since aunt Nell lived at the house often during that time. 
They were removed by Dorothy Kirby to her home in Charlotte, North
Carolina, for safekeeping in latter part of 1960s after the death of Nell
Aycock Wells, her older sister, and remained in Charlotte until Dorothy
Kirby moved back to the Farm in Nahunta in 1993. 

The fragment of the "births" page and copies of the "marriages" and 
"deaths" pages were packed by movers and moved to Nahunta, Wayne County, 
NC, where they were rediscovered by Dorothy A. Kirby between November 
27, 1997, and January 1, 1998. 

The original "births" page, together with copies of the "marriages" and 
"deaths" pages, have been donated to the N. C. State Archives. The 
transcription follows:

                          "BIRTHS

  "Edmund Coor, son of Wm Coor and Louisa his wife, was born the 10th
day of the third month A. D. 1811.

  "Anna Maria Coor Daughter of Levi Cox and Penninah his wife was born 
the 1st day of third month A. D. 1817.

  "Louisa Melissa Coor was born the 8th day of August, A. D. 1835. 

  "Penninah Amanda Coor was born the 23d day of October, A. D.1836.

  "William Rufus Coor was born the19th day of June, A. D. 1839.

  "Levi Leonidas Coor was born the 16th day of December, A. D. 1841.

  "Newton Cicero Coor was born the 21st day of March, A. D. 1844.

  "Louisa Melvina Coor was born the 3d day of July, A. D. 1846.

  "Edmund Franklin Coor was born the 25th day of July, A. D. 1853.

  "Edmund Franklin Coor Son of N. C. Coor and Augustine his wife
[illegible] day of Dec., A. D. 1874.

  "Willie Coor son of N. C. Coor and Augustine his wife was born the
8th day of December, A. D. 1878.
 
  "John Newton Coor, son of N. C. Coor and Augustine his wife, was
born the 3d day of September, A. D. 1881.

  "Anna Eugenia Coor was born the 10th day of November, A. D. 1882.

  " Charlie Edmund Coor was born July 29, A. D. 1884.

  "Temperance Ophelia Coor was born Sept. 12, A. D. 1889.

  "Adrianna Nannie Mill Coor was born the 27th day of January, A. D.
1893." [NOTE: This last name is difficult to make out in the margin of the
births page. It has been confirmed by Lawrence Gurley, Adrianna Nannie
Mill Coor Gurley's surviving son.]


                              "MARRIAGES

  "Edmund Coor & Anna Mariah Cox were Married the 29th day of May A. D. 
1834.

  "Josiah Howell and Penninnah A. Coor were married the 8th day of
May, 1856.

  "Newton Cicero Coor and Augustine Edwards were married the 19th day
of March A. D. 1874.

  "Edmund Coor and Adrianna Hooks were married the fifth day of January, 
A. D. 1882.

  "Adrianna Hooks (Coor) was born the 10th of October A. D. 1859.

  "Kate Coor was born the 21st day of March, A .D. 1887."

                              "DEATHS

  "Edmund Franklin Coor departed this life April 18th, A. D. 1854, aged 
eight months and twenty-three days.

  "William Rufus Coor departed this life August 17th, A. D. 1872 Age
31 years seven months and twenty-eight days.

   "Louisa Melissa Coor departed this life April the 3d, A. D. 1872 Age
36 years seven months and twenty-five days. Blessed are the dead that die
in the Lord.

   "Penninah Amanda Howell departed this life Saturday the 2d day of
Novm A. D. 1872. Age 36 years and ten days.

   "Emma Howell her daughter departed this life Monday the 13th day of
July A. D. 1873.

   "Edmund Franklin Coor Son of N. C. Coor departed this life the 8th day 
of July A. D. 1876 Age 18 months and eight days."
