                                            Folkland Nov 14th 1857

Dear Sir
        In times past we used to spend pleasant times in each others
company, and writing: but since you have turned to the pen for a 
calling I can hardly hope for you to write and for this, I should be
pleased, could I be near you so that we could have the pleasure of 
your company.  I never enjoyed myself more than when at Stantonsburg
with yourself.

I have been thinking that peradventure you might need some one in your
school as an assistant, and if so, I should never be more pleased than
to be associated with you.  My wife is anxious to move to your place,
and I should like to locate permanently in some town.  I have some
money, and should be pleased to invest it in some place that I might
call my home.

Give me best respects to your Lady and all and the same for yourself
