Wayne County, NC - Robinson/Ragsdale Collection File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lori Price Cobb William & Emmet Robinson Collection Johnston County Heritage Center Reference Box, P.C.1.1. George Ragsdale Collection West Point Oct 23 1854 My Dear Pa, I cannot rest satisfied without again sending you a letter wet with scalding tears the outpourings of my almost broken heart. O, my dear but deluded Pa, think of me but one moment. For God's sake send me some assurance that you will drink no more liquor, or if you intend to drink and ruin yourself and your family stay sober two weeks and come and see me. For I have a presentiment that if you continue in your present course, I will never see you again. One week ago my prospects were bright, now they are __sted and ruined for ever. Just think what will become of your little children and my dear brothers. O Pa listen to the voice of reason. You are now drinking up in liquor wh___ they will perhaps save for hereafter. You are wasting what little substance there is left and leaving them without any visible means of getting a living or acquiring an education. O My God! what a prospect for our once happy family. I am in such trouble that Col. Lee has excused me from all duty to-day ---- hence the reason of my writing. I feel now like going to the Hospital. A week ago I was in high spririts, glorying in my success in my studies and in anticipation of meeting you here next June. But now my prospects are lackened. I will get behind in my studies, and if I don't resign, I will be sent home. O Pa, as I said before, send me some assurance that you will stop drinking or if you will not, then spare a few sober days and come and see me. Your devoted and affectionate son W.
