Wayne County, NC - Biographies Unknown newspaper source Date unknown The announcement of Robert H Frazier chairman of the Guilford College board of trustees, that Hugh W Moore had been chosen as the new member of the Board has been well received by the many local residents who are friends of the native Tarhellian. The Wayne County native is filling a seat that has been vacant since the death of Richard Hollowell of Greensboro, a year ago. Moore graduated from Guilford College in 1920, and received his M A from Vanderbilt University in 1921. For several years thereafter he served as pastor of the Friends Church in Winston-Salem. For the past 21 years he has been with the American Friends Service Committee, and has been Finance Secretary since 1931. In 1930 Moore was acting head of the A F S C unit which distributed relief supplies to the people affected by the mill strikes in Marion. Moore feels that he got most of his training from his father, the late Rev John S Moore of Myrtle Springs. Rev Moore served for many years as minister to the Friends churches in rural Wayne, and was quite active in Goldsboro. The feeling about Hugh Moore may be summed up as Dr Clyde Milner, president of Guilford College expressed it: "For a great number of years we have been hoping to have Hugh Moore closely affiliated with Guilford College, his alma mater. We are most pleased to learn of his acceptance." ============================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
