Wayne County, NC - Buckskin Williams - First Resident of Whitehall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was looking for information on the Williams family and found a couple of errors in the Bicentennial Research where it states the Whitfield was the first owner of Whitehall. From my short research on this family, a trader by the name of "Buckskin Williams" was the first owner of Whitehall and he sold it to the Whitfield Family. Per other researchers, Buckskin traded from a flat boat docked on the Neuse River and he became a friend to the Saponi Indians. He lived at Seven Springs and built a trading post there which he called "White Hall". This was later sold to the Whitfield family. This Buckskin Williams was said to be the father of North Carolina Governor Benjamin Williams who was Governor 1799 to 1802 and again in 1807-1808. This might be of help to others researching the Williams Family of North Carolina. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
