Herring, C. L. Herring and Mrs. Eva Herring Lambert ---------- Obituary found on the Cullen Flowers Cemetery page. Newspaper name and obituary date not stated. Funeral services for William Joseph Herring, 87 years old, who died Tuesday morning of Calypso at the home of his daughter Mrs. F. M. Lambert, were held from that home Wednesday afternoon. The officiating ministers were Rev. J. I. Knight of the Calypso Presbyterian Church and Rev. George Lane of Mount Olive. With George Albritton, Leon Flowers, Marvin Lambert, Norman Hollowell and J. T. Howell of Calypso, and Maurice Farmer of Goldsboro serving as pall bearers, the body was interred in the old Herring Cemetery in Wayne County. Mr. Herring was one of the most interesting characters in the entire section. An inveterate reader, a student of current affairs, a musician and a lover of nature, he found life at his country home full and satisfying. He was always interested, however, in the welfare of those about him and in community enterprises. The son of Joseph and Elizabeth Anderson Herring, he spent his youth on his father's farm in Wayne County. He saw service in the War Between the States as a member of Co. A., Second North Carolina Regiment and was the last of that Company surviving. His wife, formerly Miss Annie Flowers, died in 1927. Three children survive: Mrs. F. M. Lambert of Calypso, Howard Herring of near Mount Olive with whom he had made his home until recently, and Clarence Herring of near Mount Olive. (The only William J. Herring in the 1850 and 1860 Wayne County census that fits the age of the deceased was in the home of Simon and Elizabeth Herring.) ---------- Clarence Leonard Herring death certificate Married wife's name not given (Ella Bryant per Findagrave.com) Born 5 Mar 1881 Wayne Co, died 23 Nov 1954 Duplin Co, 73 years old Parents W.
