Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina Cemetery notes and/or description: The tombstones were photographed by John Hamlet in 2003 with the help of Mr. Grady who owns the farm where they are located, off Slick Rock Rd, Wayne Co., NC. The current location of N35°16.564'/ W077°55.903'. The stones were broken by a tenant when he moved them from original location (6000 ft NW of Broadhurst Bridge) N35°16.358'/W077°55.686' over NC111 & 2600 ft E. of bend in Neuse River at curve of Rock Rd. which Slick Road runs into. They located 36 pieces in all which could be about 6 or 7 tombstones. According to newspaper articles this was the area that James Madison Hines, Sr. lived which was called Spring Bank; along with his father Willis Hines, b. ca. 1769 who drowned while crossing the Neuse River in 1835. James Madison Hines, Sr. was married to 1) Catherine J. Cobb, (b. 26 Nov 1821-d. 5 June 1848) daughter of Enoch Cobb who he married 9 May 1837. & 2) Nancy Thompson, daughter of Waitman Thompson who he married 29 May 1849. ------- Benjamin Hines Son of James M. Hines Birth: unknown Death: Nov. 4 Goldsboro, Wayne County North Carolina ------- Catherine Elizabeth Hines Birth: Oct. 13, 1847 Goldsboro, Wayne County North Carolina, USA Death: Jun. 7, 1848 Goldsboro Wayne County North Carolina Catherine Elizabeth Hines, according to Obituary she was: 7 months 25 days d. 7 June 1848 birth would be 13 Oct 1847 Tombstone broken According to tombstone she was 8 months old ------- Catherine J. Cobb Hines Birth: Nov. 26, 1821 Goldsboro Wayne County North Carolina Death: Jun. 21, 1848 Goldsboro Wayne County North Carolina Catherine J. Cobb Hines was the daughter of Enoch Cobb. She was the 1st wife of James Madison Hines, Sr. According to her Obituary she died on the 5th June 1848 at Spring Bank, Wayne Co., NC 26 years 6 months 10 days on the 5th June 1848 This would make her birthdate as: 26 Nov 1821 (according to Civl Court Records there was a typhoid fever epidemic in 1848) ------- Willis Hines Birth: 1841 Goldsboro Wayne County North Carolina Death: Jan. 19, 1857 Goldsboro Wayne County North Carolina 4 Oct 1879 According to deposition of James M. Hines, Sr. in Hines vs. Hines children named in deposition as children of Catherine J. Cobb Hines & James Madison Hines, Sr. were Willis Hines, who had died by 1857 & Mary Ann Hines who died by 1859. James M.
