Adjoining the site of Old Waynesborough, on what was once the property of General James Rhodes, is now Elmwood Cemetery. Encompassed in the cemetery are the graves of: General James Rhodes, born 1765; died 1810 Ann Bass Rhodes Blackman, born 1776; died 1817 Four infant Blackman children Cullen Blackman, Jr., aged 24 years Anna Maria Rhodes Ward Hill, born September, 1797; died March 22, 1859 Cullen Blackman was General Rhodes Executor, and married Alice Anne Bass Rhodes, wife of General James Rhodes, in 1811. Alice Anne was the daughter of Dr. Andrew Bass and his wife Alice Anne Rhodes, the daughter of William Rhodes of Wayne County, N.C. and his wife Sarah. Anna Maria Rhodes Ward Hill was daughter of General Rhodes and his wife Anne Bass Rhodes. She married first, General Edward Ward of Onslow County, N.C. and after his death, she married Dr. Buckner J. Hill of Duplin County, N.C. Nicholas Washington of Waynesborough, N.C. married Elizabeth McKinnie on Aug 1, 1809 in Wayne County, N.C. In the Raleigh Register on Aug 17, 1809 George C. Moses married Elvira Thompson on Jan 8, 1846 at Springbank, Wayne County, N.C.
