L. Ellen Crow Rhodes Meeting derived it's name from the family of Ingram Rhodes who lived near the school house and kept his doors open to Friends and invited them to come and preach in the school house. Though he was not a Friend, yet he enjoyed the messages of love that Friends brought and we believed died in the faith. End of Record Ingram's 1874 estate papers list his heirs at law to his lands: Lot 1 Emily King, 72 acres (wife of Barnabas King of Sampson) Lot 2 Louisa Rhodes, 37 1/2 acres Lot 3 Sarah E. Rhodes, 34 acres Lot 4 Druzilla Rhodes, 27 1/2 acres Lot 5 Ann M. Jennett, 70 acres Lot 6 Mary J. Grantham, 69 acres Lot 7 John C. Rhodes, 69 acres ROD Deed Bk 38, pg 85 On 11 Dec 1899 Drucilla and Louisa Rhodes sold their lots No. 2, 3 and 4 in the division of the lands of Ingram Rhodes, deceased to John Wright Rose. ROD Deed Bk 78, pg 66. John Rhodes Wayne County will written 20 Apr 1808 mentions his wife Mary and children Ingram, Sarah, Mary, Tailor, William, Thomas, Drusilla, Moses Rhodes. NC Archives. Woodland Friends Church Minutes 1883 1907 Guilford College Hege Library 9 7 1892 The Evangelistic Committee appointed in 9th mo. last report as follows (viz) We the committee appointed one year ago to look after the evangilistic work make the following report. There has been two series of meetings held; one at Woodland and one at the Rhoads school house. The one held at the Rhodes school house eight miles south west of Woodland, David Sampson of East Bend NC conducted the meeting assisted by our ministers. pg 83 84. 4 18 1903 The Friends at Rhodes request that a Mo. Mtg. be set up at that place after consideration it is decided to refer the matter to the Qr. Mtg. pg 205. 5 16 1903 Meeting accepts the following named persons: John W. Rose, Susan A. Rose, Rena Rose, Hettie Rose and Johnie Rose having requested to become members of Woodland Mo. Mtg. and being recommended by the pastorial committee the Mtg. is united in accepting them as active members. pg 206. [Rena, Hettie and Johnie were daughters of John and Susan Rose] 10 19 1903 Received an extract from the local mtg. on Ministry and Oversight recommending that the 1st Mo. Mtg. after each Qr. Mtg. be held at Rhodes with which this meeting unites. pg 209. End of Record John Wright Rose was the son of Benjamin Bryan Rose and wife Elizabeth Eldridge of Johnston County, NC. He married 29 Dec 1870 Susan A. King at the home of Emily King. Susan was the daughter of Barnabas and Emily Rhodes King of Sampson County, NC. Emily Rhodes King was the daughter of Ingram and Sarah Cox Rhodes. John and Susan's children were: Flora Lillian, Sarah Margaret, Clara Jane, Emily Elizabeth, Marshal Franklin, Rena Isabella, Susan Ellen, Hettie Myrtle and Johnnie Mabel Rose.
