In the early days of Methodism, weekday preaching and large circuits were a necessity. The harvest was great and the laborers few. The people had to attend preaching in the week, or not attend at all. In 1852 I was in charge of the Smithfield circuit, which then embraced Goldsboro and several other appointments in Wayne county. At the Conference of 1853 (Raleigh) the circuit was divided and Goldsboro circuit set off. I was sent in charge of Goldsboro and Rev. John Tillett in charge of Smithfield. Goldsboro has since been made a station and Everittsville circuit takes its name. I would say that the Everittsville and Smithfield circuits are among the most desirable in the NC Conference. At all events, I would be willing to spend the remnant of my days on either. L. W.
