State of North Carolina Wayne County Nov Term 1865 Ordered by the Court that Jas. Lucas JP, D.B. Everitt, J.C. Slocumb to view the estate of W.D. Cobb dec'd and to allot and set apart to his widow A.S. Cobb so much of the crop, stock and provisions belonging thereto as may be adequate to the support of herself and family for one year and if there shall not be a sufficiency on hand to afford such an allowance, then to assess the deficiency in money. Said committee are to report to the next term of this court under their hands and seal. W.G. Hollowell Clk ----- November 1865 To the Special Court of Wayne County We, J.S. Lucas, Justice of the Peace and John Everitt, D.B. Everitt and J.C. Slocumb freeholders having been appointed a committee at November term 1865 to lay off and allott to Mrs. Ann S. Cobb widow of W.D. Cobb dec'd, a years allowance for herself & family, proceeded on the 20th day of December to view the estate of said deceased & out of the crop, stock & provisions on hand, have allotted to her the following articles to wit: All the corn, pork & lard on hand, all the vinegar, soap, fodder, shucks & wool on hand also one buf. There not being a sufficiency of the crop, stock & provisions on hand to make a comfortable support for said widow & family for one year, we have assessed the deficiency at ($1021.55) ten hundred & twenty one dollars & fifty cents to be paid to her by the administrator. We have also allotted to her one bed & furniture, one wheel & cards, one bible & hymn book as her absolute property & have put her in possession of the same. Cobb widow of W.D. Cobb deceased, one third part of the lands the said W.D. Cobb died seized and possessed of, viz: The Searls tract adjoining the lands of Waitman Thompson, Wright Casey & others containing 590 acres The Graddy tract adjoining the above tract containing 1500 acres The Hill tract adjoining the above containing 550 acres, & two thirds of the Griswold tract adjoining the lands of Robt Peel, Wright Casey & others containing 460 acres And your proceedings report to the next term of our said court, to be held at the court house in Goldsboro on the third Monday of February next.
