Wayne County, NC - Needham Everitt Petition, 1874 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wayne County Miscellaneous Records 1788-1936 CR 103.928.10 State of North Carolina } Wayne County } To the Hon Superior Court, Probate for said County: The petition of Needham Everitt (col'd) respectfully shews: That he is the father of two boys, Henry and Charles, aged respectively about 17 and 15 years: That said boys were born during slavery, and were the property of one Wm. Bryan, to whom also belonged the boys mother: That the mother died during the war, and that your petitioner has since intermarried, and has other children, begotten in lawful wedlock: And he prays That as a matter of justice to his two sons Charles and Henry, they be legitimised and given all rights & priveleges which are conferred upon children born in lawful wedlock. And your petitioner will ever pray, &c Needham (his X mark) Everitt Superior Court } Wayne County } It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Needham Everitt (col'd) is the father of two boys, Henry and Charles aged respectively about 17 and 15 years, and that said boys were born of a slave during the existence of negro slavery in this state, That said boys are new living with and being cared for by their said respected father, and that the said father desires that said children be legitimatised conferred upon children born in lawful wedlock, The Court doth declare and pronounce the said children legitimatised It is further ordered tht the costs of this proceeding be paid by the petitioner Geo Jno Robinson C.S.C.
