Lemay, Printer 1847 Chapter CXXI An Act to incorporate Everittsville Female Academy, in the county of Wayne Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That John Everitt, John Wright, David B. Everitt, Curtis Hooks, Willis Hall, Samuel Smith, William Carraway, and John C. Slocumb, and their associates and successors, be, and they are declared to be a body corporate and politic, by the name of the Trustees of Everittsville Female Academy; and by that name shall have perpetual succession and a common seal; be capable of suing and being sued, and of demanding, receiving and possessing monies, goods and chattels, lands and tenements, for the use of said Academy; of making all such by-laws and regulations as they may deem necessary for the good government of said Academy, and for the promotion of learning and science in said Institution, which may not be inconsistent with the Constitution and laws of this State or of the United States. Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That the said trustees, or a majority of them, shall have power to appoint other trustees of the said academy, so as not to exceed ten in number, and may supply all vacancies which may occur in the board of trustees, by death, resignation, removal or otherwise; and the said board, or a majority of them, may employ teachers, and contract with them for their services, which contracts shall be binding on the said board; and may do all other things which are proper to be done by bodies corporate, having for their object the advancement of learning. Sec 3. Be it further enacted, That this act shall be in force from and after its ratification.
