November-December 1787 November 29, 1787 To the Honble the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina The petition of Sundry of the Inhabitants residing in the upperend of the Counties of Dobbs, Edgcombe and Wayne Humbly Sheweth That whereas the great distance from the place of their residence, to the Court House of the County to which they respectively belong renders their attendance on Court Musters and Elections inconvenient and expensive They therefore pray that a Seperate County be Estabished by the following lines, to witt, beginning on great Cotentnea Creek at Craven County line, running thence to Pitt County line, thence with Pitt County line to Edgecombe County line from thence with Pitt County line to Edgecombe County line from thence a direct line to Nash County line at Thomas Vivrett's, thence with Nash County line to great Cotentnea Creek, from thence a direct line to Peter Peacock's bridge on Nawhunta, from thence a direct line to Tyson's Marsh ___ above James Wood's plantation, thence down the various courses of the sd run to great Cotentnea Creek, from thence down the Creek with meanders thereof to the beginning And as in duly bound they will pray Eth.
