Wayne County, NC - Court - Curtis Holmes, Indenture, Needham Pipkin, 1843 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA THIS INDENTURE MADE THE 16th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three between Wm K Lane Chairman of the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, of the county of Wayne, and State, aforesaid, on behalf of the Justices of the said county, and their successors, of the one part and Curtis Holmes of the other part - Witnesseth, that the said Wm K Lane in pursuance of an order of said County Court, made the 16th day of May 1853 and according to the directions of an act of Assembly, in that case made and provided, doth put, place, and bind unto the said Curtis Holmes an Orphan, named Needham B Pipkin now of age of 7 years 4 Oct last, with the said [blank] to live after the manner of an apprentice and servant, until the said apprentice shall attain the age of twenty-one years. And the said Curtis Holmes doth covenant, promise, and agree, to and with the said Wm K Lane that he will teach and instruct, or cause to be taught and instructed, the said Needham Bryan Pipkin the art, trade, mystery, and employment of a farmer and teach, or cause to be taught, said Needham Bryan Pipkin to read and write; and that he will constantly find and provide for said apprentice, during the term aforesaid, sufficient diet, clothes, lodging, and accomodations, fit and necessary for an apprentice; and also all other things necessary, both in sickness and in health. In Witness whereof, the parties to the presents, have interchangeably set their hands and seals, the day and year first above written.
